Thanks Matt and team for all your unflinching efforts on behalf of the forgotten and ignored majority but I’m afraid my heart is still sinking. The result was a blow for the elites but it’s a short lived one. Thousands of undocumented males will be housed somewhere amongst the decent people of this country so all I can think of is how many young girls will have their lives destroyed over the next few years, how many families will have to live with the fear of harm in their communities? Even if Labour was to start putting males into secure accommodation, they’re fast tracking them towards being allowed to stay anyway. Where the hell will we be in four more years? I’m seething that Labour didn’t at least give the Rwanda deal a trial. That political decision alone proves without a shadow of doubt that the very last thing they care about is the people of this country. I couldn’t despise them more if I tried.
I share your despair TT,the dinghies could be stopped tomorrow by any old fashioned courageous backboned leader with the guts to just declare that no more will land on our shores and any who try will,without argument,be transferred to a redundant cruise liner and given a choice of returning from whence they came or be sent to Accension Island to reconsider.
But never mind our exalted leader Captain Starmer is off to Ukraine at the head of our mighty Dad's Army to confront Putin where perhaps our only hope is that the Russians will die laughing.
We need a WWII style small boats army of civilians to black the waters in the channel just at the edge of French waters. I'd pay towards that for sure.
The fleet of exceptionally brave and patriotic weekend sailors who sailed to Dunkirk in 1940 to help bring our army back to the UK performed an almost miraculous task but it is not civilians we need now.
What would be required would be military style Rigid inflatables manned by armed special boat service personnel to transfer the dinghy invaders to a larger vessel prior to removal to the large passenger ships.
Someone (ex British military I think) said the easiest way to stop the boats is send 3rd party military contractors into France to slash the boats before they set off. Apparently the gangs don't use sophisticated encryption so it wouldn't be hard. The French would complain but not much because it would be so embarrassing for them to have to admit the boats could be stopped by anyone who genuinely wanted to do it. 👍
I agree with you entirely. The main problem is indeed that those men and women in the British and French adiminstrations don't care about their country, and I would go so far as to say that they dislike the country they are in charge of. They embody what Sir Roger Scruton identified as "oikophobia" whereas we want to feel at home, which is what " oikophilia " is all about, or what the French politician and philosopher François-Xavier Bellamy calls " demeure".
I suspect you're correct about the government's intention but l think that will trigger what most of us have been hoping to avoid.
Given the level of hostility towards illegal immigrants now l don't see how their safety can be assured if they are placed in small hmo's and spead around the country. While most people will be responsible l think we are past the point where self restraint can be assumed and, as the situation will be impossible to police, there will be some ( in every community probably) who will see it as an opportunity to directly confront every illegal they encounter.
Frankly, the prospects for illegals being able to build any sort of life here is now looking so grim that l'm coming to believe it will soon become necessary to consider using 'closed camps' for their own safety. Given the hostility will follow them even if they are granted asylum ( expecially perhaps) then deportation or voluntary repatriation may begin to look attractive.
I agree with most of what you say, but do we really want even more illegals to build a life here? It seems far too many have no intention to integrate. They only want to build the exact same life as they had in their homeland; same medieval religion, culture, laws and courts, standards and values, language, etc.
As for "closed camps", they have already closed off certain areas of Britain, and the police have to seek permission from "community leaders" before entering their territory. They've even set up their own legal system (Sharia).
People talk about "no go zones" and "ghettos", but in reality they should be called colonies because, by most definitions of colonialism, that is more or less what's happening in Britain right now.
"Colonialism is the practice of extending and maintaining political, social, economic, and cultural domination over a territory and its people by another people in pursuit of interests defined in an often distant metropole, who also claim superiority" - Wikipedia.👍
To be honest, the safety of people here is more of a concern for me at this point. There have been too many ‘alleged’ incidents, plus there is the possible increased risk of terrorism. But I take your point that it may prove to be a disincentive to come here. We can but hope.
I hope it happens and I really couldn't care less as we have more important things to worry about like the British public. Although in London the suckers will welcome HMOs with open arms. I've always said I'd never rent my house to the government to house asylum seekers, but given the lefty pro immigration street and borough I live in I would get a real kick out of leaving my house full of immigrants while I swan off somewhere else. Then let's see how much they like immigration, the closet nimbys.
The following was quite an interesting reply below which I thought could use more airplay. I don't know if it helps (it certainly wasn't my area of law), but the more difficult we can make legal matters for the government, the better:

The Epping injunction was granted because there was an unlawful change of use. If a single family home is converted to a House in Multiple Occupation for more than 6 persons then planning permission is needed. If the Local Planning Authority has made an Article 4 Direction that removes permitted development rights for HMOs planning permission is required regardless of the number of occupants. There is enormous scope for a great many applications for injunctions where illegal migrants are being housed in HMOs which Serco is creating for the purpose without planning permission.
Couldn't agree more. Whilst I like that this is a win for normal people at least if they're all in hotels we know where they are and they are contained in an area usually a little bit away from residents. That said if all the other hotels follow suit quickly the Labour Government will have one hell of a crisis on its hand as 30,000+ migrants need to be housed quickly. I truly look forward to seeing how they'd handle that. I mean every week they need another one or two hotels just to house that week's boatloads that newly arrive. It's just utterly daft that Labour aren't taking radical emergency action. I'm watching with bated breath at the chaos that's about to unfold. I'd go as far as to say I hope just for a couple of weeks 10,000 arrive because that will be game over for them.
Just as they failed to act a couple of years ago on this same issue the local council would not have acted now but for the peoples' protests and the loomimg Reform Party support.
But what will the government and Whitehall do now. They will not stop the boats and the numbers of illegals here already are huge. I would not be surprised if Permitted Development rights and/or the NPPF were amended to allow hotels and other premises to be converted to hostels without further permission.
The following is an interesting comment from someone below. It wasn't my area of law, but I had wondered something similar about these HMOs. The more legal difficulties we can cause for the government, the better:

We know that this Government is WEF-dominated; we know that it is determined to destroy nation states and national boundaries; we know that Starmer spits on anyone who is patriotic and labels them 'far-Right'; we know that the Government is Hell-bent on appeasing Islam in order to try to preserve the votes from that quarter; we know that the Government is collectively a bunch of lying, inept thieves, who are asset-stripping the British people. So, what can we conclude from this? We can conclude that the boats will keep on coming in ever-increasing increasing numbers, bringing more undocumented young males who will unleash a crime wave the like of which has never been known in Britain, and we know that councils will spend more and more of tax-payer's Council Tax buying up houses and flats to put these people in, until the money runs out.
The ending of the hotel use is not the end, it is not even the beginning of the end, but it may just be the beginning of the plan to distribute all of these illegal immigrants throughout Britain, in houses in YOUR street, where it will be impossible to keep track of what they are up to. Children, boys as well as girls will have to be escorted to and from school and will not be able to roam freely anymore. Goodbye innocence.
Starmer and his Leftie chums see that as redistribution of wealth, just like the shoplifting epidemic, which will change the face of life in Britain, because soon there will be no shops, just on-line retailers.
Yes, no shops is the plan so that we no longer go out and mingle with other "right wing thugs", just as most people will be expected to work from home and so be unable to whisper mutinous thoughts over the water cooler.
Last night had the misfortune to watch part of Newsnight where one Zoe Gardner was trying to say the protests were all organised by The Far Right ( as ever), and threatening to the poor young men in the hotel
It seems we are all far right nazi racist bigots if we disagree with middle class privileged elites like her.
Absolutely Matt! These migrants are already criminals because they have co.e here illegally. I don't care if the Crime of illegal immigration has been scrapped, it's still ILLEGAL as far as the British people are concerned! SEND THEM ALL BACK!
At this stage, it will be yet more smoke and mirrors. Illegal immigrants will start to disappear from statistics. Those sent over from France will not face the same processes as previously and so will also disappear from statistics. Central govt will become involved in more clandestine operations to hide these people from us. It will not go away; the govt will just become dirtier.
They called it a ‘one in, one out’ deal to make us think progress would be made. Whereas, it will probably lead to increased migration, but with France choosing which people should enter the UK. Imagine that, France will be vetting our migrants, and once they reach our shores, they will for all intents and purposes be legal. Another country is choosing our citizens for us!
We are no longer living in a democracy so the people will either succumb spinelessly or fight back. It looks like the fight has begun and one can only hope the government and opposition will realise that they MUST control the illegal immigrants and not the British majority whose views have been consistently ignored by them. If they fail to do so I fear that violence is almost inevitable.
Starmer believes we can send troops to police the Russian/Ukrainian border. Most British people believe they would be better deployed controlling the British borders!
The 80th anniversary of VJ Day has just passed more or less unnoticed except for a few weasel words from our “leaders”. Those that lost their lives did so to defend British sovereignty and the freedom of the British people. We should honour their enormous personal sacrifice by doing our utmost to ensure that their values are upheld in the peace that they secured.
Excellent analysis. What you have written applies word for word to Macron, the hapless president of my country. How ironic it indeed is that Starmer and Macron and all their colleagues in the EU in Brussels should keep reiterating the legitimate need for Ukraine to defend its national borders while harping on about opening the borders of Britain and France.
Seek out David McGrogan (News from Uncibal) whose substack yesterday goes into chapter and verse on how the original problem here is not the 1951 Refugee Convention but an activist judge's interpretation of what it should really mean, circa the 1990s.
Arguably the only reason we got a result on Epping is that there is still one judge on the circuit who has not been captured by sentimental luxury Islington beliefs.
Just imagine it, OUR Labour GOVERNMENT turns to the European Court of Human Rights to effectively OVERTURN our High Court. Imagine that, if you can. If they did do this, which I doubt they have the nerve, it will be another million votes, or more, going to the right, likely, to Reform. Part of me actually wants them to do this, you know the old saying, "Give them enough rope", this would be Labour slipping the noose over their own heads. They won't do it, they will toughen down on buying, renting homes to tuck migrants away, next to you and your daughters, your granddaughters and Yes, they will do it with your and my money. I hope the PEACEFUL protests grow, spread to all parts of England, as it seems to be more an England issue than Celtic countries. But my biggest hope is the people crack, national strike, FORCE Starmer & Co out. We seriously need the whole of Britain, every man woman and child old enough to shout, to roar like never before. And this is not just about immigration, it about every aspect of Starmer & Co's governance.
The People Have Spoken – And Won. For once, the establishment blinked. Ordinary men and women in Epping stood up, organised, and said “No” to having their town turned into a migrant dumping ground. And yesterday, they won.
A judge ruled the Bell Hotel can no longer be used to house illegal migrants and asylum seekers. The technical excuse was planning law – but make no mistake: it was the people, through peaceful protest and persistence, who forced the system to listen.
This is a turning point. Councils across Britain will now be asking: if Epping can do it, why can’t we? From Yorkshire to Kent, from Birmingham to Bristol, communities will look at this judgment and realise they, too, can fight back.
The ruling exposes what we all know: Labour has lost control. Keir Starmer and Yvette Cooper promised order but delivered chaos – record small boats, billions wasted on hotels, migrants moved into towns while British families struggle for housing. And when challenged, they even ran to foreign courts to block the people’s will.
But Epping proves a simple truth: when the people stand together, they can beat the establishment.
This government is weak. The people are strong. And if Epping was the first shot, it won’t be the last.
I agree it was great, and I do admire them for it, but it seems to me that unfortunately the effects of the "real difference" could be that instead of the illegals being focused in one location, they will be spread out among the communities - rather than the "real difference" of getting them out of the country and stopping more coming in - and then the "open border" "compassionate" idealists will just keep being sneaky or telling us more lies about who and where they are. Because they're so convinced they "know better" than all of those ordinary worried mothers and fathers, who are surely just "far right" and "racist", rather than real people with common sense, concerned for their own kids and their own culture. We need more of something, all right, but I don't think you solve the problem presented by the ill person by taking their infection and spreading it thinly so people can't see it so clearly. And I am well aware that that is a potentially dangerous comparison, as it smacks of how the Nazis talked about the Jews, but I'm not talking about hatred or racial classification, I'm talking about protection and cultural self-respect, and comparing sneaky approaches and practical "solutions" - which as I said, are not about closing the odd hotel, but getting them out of the country and stopping more coming in.
There's a huge difference between deporting people because they've arrived illegally and preventing them from leaving, with the intention of exterminating them! That's why I find so ridiculous the constant use of the word 'Nazi' today in situations which are not at all comparable.
Great piece Matt. Labour won't act, Labour will continue to gaslight. This is for several reasons. Labour lost touch with working class Britain many years ago so it actually does not understand the concerns of what used to be its core vote. This is why it lost the Red Wall in 2019 and why it will lose it again to Reform next time. Secondly, Labour will be held hostage by those on the left of its party that believe immigration is "fair". And thirdly because they think there are votes in it for them.
All true. This Labour is not the old Labour. Their natural instinct seems to be to lie, obfuscate, conceal, ignore and suppress. But they are neither cunning nor sophisticated enough to get away with it, even in the short term, and everyone can now see them for what they are.
As usual spit on with your overview of the situation. We cannot hide from the fact that people thought Labour could not be worse than the Tories, but those of us who lived through previous Labour governments knew that was a huge mistake. They are worse. Its up to us now to do what the people of Epping did. Keep our areas under scrutiny, check planning applications, eyes and ears open and where necessary peaceful engagement. We are beginning to see people like yourself Matt, who really do speak for the ordinary people. You get it. If only successive govts did. Bad things happen when good people do nothing. There are now good people who are no longer going to do nothing. You are one of them Steven Barrett, Adam Brooks, Russell Quirk, Alex Phillips, Mike Graham, Charlie Peters, Patrick Christys, Ben Leo and Martin Daubney are others. We thank you all. Labours isnt listening and isnt working. Time for change.
I heard recently that Weston-super-mare in North Somerset has been debating whether to become a "sanctuary city". I no longer get to see local papers--I don't live there-- so don't know the outcome, other than the fact that residents were not exactly charmed by the idea and held protests outside the town hall. I couldn't imagine any half-sensible council even contemplating such an idea but we are not living in sensible times. The concern for this seaside touristy town is that the idiot council might "welcome" hordes of "poor suffering refugees" and expect the locals to help integrate them.
It's evil; the whole thing is beyond words; and here are council members stupid enough to think it's all a good idea. Weston already has some seedy places, it's not like it used to be.
I suspect the problem is the "idiots" are in fact brainwashed so there's no point hoping for common sense or intelligence to prevail. They believe nation states and a sense of nationality are bad - they're "not inclusive". It's time we stopped arguing with these apparent criticisms and instead agree with them, and say why, e.g.
Failing to exclude the rest of the world from British housing is why young British people have no chance of buying homes and starting families;
Failing to exclude the rest of the world from the NHS is why it's collapsing under the strain;
Failing to exclude the rest of the world from British jobs is why we have too many low paid low quality jobs, and wages are stagnant;
Failing to exclude the rest of the world from the British welfare state is why it costs so much, doesn't do what it should, and incentivizes the rest of the world to come here and leech off of British tax payers, etc. 👍
Reform need to declare that anyone entering this country illegally will not be allowed to stay and any illegals given leave to remain (or asylum under our current lax system) may have that revoked following review. That might become the only deterrent we have!
Thanks Matt and team for all your unflinching efforts on behalf of the forgotten and ignored majority but I’m afraid my heart is still sinking. Yes, Labour has declared war on the people. Well, the people who matter, the 52pc cent.
If they relocate the illegals into HMO’s in every community we will all have to become “Je suis Epping”.
Exactly. 🏴

don't forget 2TK & Macron (the mincing duo) arranged the one in one out gig but ignored informing people this
The UK pays all transport and admin costs, both directions.
▪️ France can veto any migrant we want to return, no reason required.
▪️ UK can’t cross-check fingerprints of the ones they send, and they won’t run Eurodac checks for us.
▪️ UK must process removals within 14 days of arrival or we lose the right to remove them.
▪️ Only around 50 migrants a week can be returned about 5% of weekly crossings.
▪️ Migrants can block their return using human rights appeals.
▪️ UK can’t return those citing vague “public interest” concerns.
▪️ The UK MUST accept asylum seekers France chooses, with no independent vetting.

Inspirational work by the people of Epping.
Localism and grass roots organising has made a real difference.
We need more of this across the nation.
Failing to exclude the rest of the world from British housing is why young British people have no chance of buying homes and starting families;
Failing to exclude the rest of the world from the NHS is why it's collapsing under the strain;
Failing to exclude the rest of the world from British jobs is why we have too many low paid low quality jobs, and wages are stagnant;
Failing to exclude the rest of the world from the British welfare state is why it costs so much, doesn't do what it should, and incentivizes the rest of the world to come here and leech off of British tax payers, etc. 👍
About time. A positive step towards smashing a ruinous open door policy on immigration
Reform need to declare that anyone entering this country illegally will not be allowed to stay and any illegals given leave to remain (or asylum under our current lax system) may have that revoked following review. That might become the only deterrent we have!
