Heartbreaking and angering. Our country is being destroyed on so many levels. The sheer numbers bring the problems of pressure on housing and public services which results in this beautiful country being concreted over. Then there are the cultural differences and the lack of integration of so many from outside Europe. And most importantly, the huge rise in crime with particular implications for women and children. I’ve seen so many changes for the worse over my lifetime and I never would have believed that such an incredible country with such an amazing history could be so easily destroyed. I’ll never forgive the politicians from Blair onwards who have wreaked such devastation. They should all be put on trial.
You express everything that is obvious to people, the evidence is in plain sight and yet our politicians, the educational and arts establishments, the bbc and many judges, human rights lawyers are blind and unthinking about the consequences of their actions. Who would have thought 60 years ago that Britain would be mired in such an economic and cultural mess. Our politicians since Tony Blair (and he accelerated the rot) are incompetent unthinking and looking only to the next election rather than the good of the nation. This Labour government has the most incompetent and unsuitable people in its cabinet and no strategy other than trying to stay in power and ruin the country further. See for example the damage that Yvette Cooper, Angela Rayner, Brigitte Phillipson Lord Hermes and Keir Starmer have done within just one year. God help us for the next four.
All going to plan for globalists, their planted Lab ldr doing as told, the ambitious but lacking brain women around him as ministers do as they told or might lose their place.
Matt needs to 'work'a constituency and win a seat in Westminster. Talking to this echo chamber is NOT power and NOT going to change a thing. We already know everything he writes about, week after week. Farage needs Matt on the team...if he doesn't stab him in the back of course.
What Matt is doing is still very valuable ( and others of course). He’s articulating what the majority thinks and he’s making it mainstream. He’s also providing the evidence we need in order to strike up conversations and have the ability to back up what we are saying. In the process he’s giving more and more people the courage to speak out. None of this would have happened a few years ago. Now the anger is getting too loud for the ‘elites’ to silence although they’re having a good try.
Every little helps but this is a very small echo chamber of the already aware. '81,000 readers across 181 countries' is tiny, how many in the UK? How many people per constituency? In the era before Social Media good people won seats in the Westminster by shoving out newsletters and leaflets into EVERY LETTERBOX in a constituency; this is how to win power. Even the DimLibs know this.
MG is getting more media outlets to speak on in addition to this substack, such as articles in The Telegraph, programmes on GBNews, etc. The message is gradually getting more widely known.
I appreciate that but it's never enough to win a seat in Westminster, as so many 'famous' people have discovered. A candidate has to be LOCALLY famous and very popular in a community, that means getting up close with voters, kissing babies, being at village fetes, running public meetings etc
But how many trust politicians or read the leaflets? I certainly don’t. I think what Matt and other citizen journalists are doing is probably more valuable at least for the time being. And if each of us convinces at least one more person to speak out, the resistance will grow. There’s even a new group of young women who’ve set up a group called the Women’s Safety Initiative. The anger and discontent is spreading.
You're completely missing the point, I'm talking about winning a seat in the House of Commons, that's done by getting your messages into every home in ONE constituency. If you walked down any street in Britain and asked people if they followed Matt Goodwin on the internet, most people wouldn't know who you were talking about. Try it. We need punchy MPs in power in Westminster not more substackers.
I understand what you are saying and what I’m saying is that what Matt is doing is more valuable for the time being. Canvassing door to door in one area would be a waste of his voice although he’ll probably need to do that nearer the election.
Of course it's deliberate. It's been deliberate for decades. Behind the facade of 'democratically elected governments' has always been a Communist faction who knew that mass chaotic unvetted immigration was the seed of societal chaos, ramped up and in plain sight in recent years, ramped up by traitors (or was she just plain stupid?) like Theresa May who signed the UN's 'Compact for Global Migration' while the gullible public went to work, played with the kids, slept in their comfy beds. The UN is a hotbed of communists, now allied with Islamists. All of this is far more destructive than WW1 and WW2 combined, because it's permanent and unstoppable now. The sickest joke of all: billions more defence spending on imaginary threats - but we can't stop men arriving in rubber boats. Don't let ANY Tories into Reform, they are idiots.
The irony with the 'defense spending' is that Putin actually invaded Ukraine to STOP what Europe has become spreading into Russia - not the other way round.
We have so much trouble baked into our future I can assure you Putin won't want it be anywhere near it.
They won't need to worry though as Croatia is part of the EU - and is being subject to the same destructive policies as everyone else. They had better wake up soon.
Reform already has entryist CINOs running and directing things. Have you not noticed? They have even allowed advisors from CCHQ to come in. Which accounts for some of the strange behaviour we have seen. What party on the centre/right would use an extreme Left organisation like Hope not Hate to vet its candidates. They need to vet people properly but Reform has failed to vet the 'vetters'. It is this sloppy approach and their smear tactics that cause me doubt and concern about them. Their actions have resulted in fracturing the right wing vote.
All you write is true Matt, painfully true. In fact when I read much of your stuff I find it very hard to maintain my hope and optimism for this once great country. Would it possible, please, to write not just about the problems but what you think might be the solutions? I believe we need something to fight FOR, not just AGAINST
Matthew has already listed the solutions, and some of them would not be so hard to implement if politicians had the political will to confront the reality and to change things.
Yes, HIS solutions. But so far all we are doing is telling other people what they should be doing. What should we be doing? Little will change whilst we rely on politicians to change things, even those that promise change
I sense the penny is beginning to drop. It is no good depending on academics and influencers to determine the future. The people must think for themselves and you identify precisely the challenge: how not to be passive receivers of others' ideas but active achievers of the sort of society we are not even clear about what we want yet
As regards achieving Direct Democracy the obvious answer would be to implement it at local authority level whilst a system appropriate for a large and complex society such as ours is developed and the people learn to think for themselves
Unless I missed something very obvious, three words were conspicuous by their absence in the commemorations yesterday: Islam, Muslims and Islamism.
If an extraplanetary alien just landed in London yesterday and was asked to summarise what the commemorations were about, he might have said that there were four unexplained explosions happening across the London public transport network in 2005, and we were all very sad about that.
Unsurprising as this is to most of us, it's still frustrating how the core issue is still swept under the carpet. No the terrorists weren't eco-loons, nor were they grannies on the warpath, or French - they were Muslims. And the sick and twisted reason for blowing up innocents could be, according to them, found in their faith.
I believe in constitutional monarchies. They normally ensure stability and cohesion and act as a for good. This current monarch has betrayed his mother's legacy and is causing the opposite.
Actually, though the Queen was way superior to Jug ears Charles, she did let us down completely on one issue. There is only one instance when Monarchy is meant to stand up for the people, and that is when there is danger of the loss of sovereignty. She had the power to stop us joining the EEC, but she did not, it is nonsense to suggest that she did not know as freedom of Info documents proved that Edward Heath knew that joining meant the eventual loss of sovereignty was to be the end result but was bribed to hide the fact. If he knew, it beggars belief to think that the Queen did not.
Another thought experiment I saw some years ago at an immigration debate was a large jar of sweets. You were told that a few of them had been laced with cyanide. The sweets were then offerd to the audience. No-one wanted a sweet of course. Indeed, had it been true, it would have been illegal to offer that jar of sweets to the public.
Yet, that is the Russian roulette our goverment plays with us over immigration. And don't forget that in addition to the atrocities mentioned in the article we have had London Bridge, Westminster Bridge, Lee Rigby, PC Palmer at the House of Commans, and Forbury Park Reading. The same jar of sweets also affected the Bataclan, Nice and Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich.
That jar of sweets should never have been allowed even though it contained (may be) some good sweets.
Thank you Matt. Straight to the point as usual. Khan, Starmer, Cooper and their ilk are holding fast to their fantasy of multicultural harmony. The rest of us know this is a lethal pipe dream. They talk about taking action, then rapidly backtrack, afraid to rock the block vote boat. They truly are adrift from the realities of life as it really is in Britain today. They are a waste of time, a waste of space and an insult to the British people. Labour are done, the Conservatives are done. It’s all about holding on for now and hoping a new, more reality based politics will evolve and gain strength in the next four years.
I want to cry for our beautiful country. Our Countryside will be destroyed and our culture and the very essence of being British will be erased, and we stood by and let it happen for fear of being called a racist.
We are actively looking to leave UK now, life is so depressing and unhappy here. It’s soul destroying. Thank you for all of your efforts Matt.
Matt you just about sum up things nicely. What do about it? I think the polls reflect the wider concerns of the British public. Let’s hope we can get through this summer without anything disastrous happening.
From the words they choose, one can detect that In their minds, they have substituted 'far right' for the real and growing threat, despite all evidence, including the event they pretend to honour.
Nigel didn't do any better. Kemi Badenoch at least said the phrase "Islamic terrorism". It's not like they were imported, 3 were born here and one was brought over as a toddler. How can we get rid of these people who were born here, and have citizenship, but hate us?
Until people start understanding that these people are not migrants, they’re not asylum seekers. They are part of a deliberate Islamic takeover of Western Europe Nothing will ever be done.
I do somewhat agree with you, but the 7/7 bombers were the descendants of Mirpur Pakistanis who were imported to work in the textile industry after the Indians built the Mangla Dam. I think this all stems from the British state still mopping up spills from the empire, when we have no obligation to any of these states post-independence. We need nationalism and national preference for our culture, religion, and people.
I’m increasingly of the view that mass deportation and the threat thereof, is the only answer to the mess we’ve created. We need clarity from Reform but they’re the only party talking about stopping more illegal immigrants arriving and have a plan to do so. Reducing legal immigration and have a plan to do so - zero immigration is undesirable but we need to talk about gross numbers both ways as we lose better citizens than we gain. Villains in prison and convicted of serious crimes need to go and Reform have a plan. I think we also need to deport those Imams who preach hate and their followers being monitored by MI5 - I’m yet to hear a coherent plan from Reform for this. Finally, we should support immigrants who wish to return to their home countries and incentivise this - not heard anything from Reform on this. So overall Reform are saying most of the right things but we need to hear more.
Ben Habib's new party (although it's not yet registered, as he's waiting for 30,000 subscribers) is talking about mass deportation of illegals and about incentivising legals to leave, as per the Swedish initiative. I don't agree that zero immigration is undesirable. We have 9 million people plus another 1 million young people sitting around when they could be contributing in the workplace. And if we wasted less money on subsidising Mickey Mouse degrees at ex-polytechnics, we could perhaps invest more in training our own doctors, scientists, mathematicians and physicists. If our own education system was more effective and efficient we shouldn't need to poach people from overseas.
Agree with much of what you say but would you not allow an American multi-billionaire to come to the UK if they were going to build a new motor manufacturing plant offering 10000 new jobs? Also Habib will be useful to flesh out some policy details and float their popularity which will help Reform. Otherwise it’s a distraction which will only help Labour.
An American multi-billionaire who would make such a large contribution to the well-being of our country (and be culturally compatible and possibly fun) would indeed be very welcome, in my book. I don't expect we'll be seeing many of those, however. I'm hoping that the existence of Ben's party will push Reform in the right direction.
One undeniable problem is care. Currently most care workers in old people's homes seem to be Phillppino women who do a good job. British girls (and boys) are reluctant to train and work in care homes -- and who can blame them? The work is often unpleasant, even physically dangerous with bipolar patients and badly paid. This is a serious issue for an aging population, no getting away from it. But obviously the illegal migrants don't come here to work in care homes and being mostly young males I don't think they would be at all suitable. One would like a policy which severely restricts immigration, certainly most if not all young males, but not Asian women coming to do care jobs.
I think you'll find that the majority of carers in care homes in England are in fact British women. The job itself can be very worthy and rewarding. With the correct manual handling equipment and number of staff available, the physical risks can be minimised. The problem is that the pay is poor - barely above minimum wage - because the care sector has insisted on the import of cheap foreign labour, which pushes wages down. The situation can be even worse for domiciliary carers because they may not get paid for the periods when they are travelling between different clients' homes. Importing cheap foreign labour may benefit care home conglomerates but it does not benefit the country in the long term because, as Matt has pointed out repeatedly, such labour takes out more financially than it contributes. If care work was more highly valued, as it should be, and better paid, perhaps we could get some of our out-of-work British nationals trained up to a good standard and into at least part time care work. I agree that we should not be allowing random people with no care work experience into our care homes to provide for our vulnerable elderly, but it is happening. As for Filipino women, there are very many working as nurses in NHS hospitals. They seem to be very good workers but is it not shameful that we are poaching relatively well paid professionals from abroad when our own youngsters could be trained up for these well-regarded jobs? Incidentally, dementia patients can be difficult to understand and handle but they are not the same as psychiatric, bipolar patients.
Yes, that's a valid point about poaching -- a point I have made in these columns myself. It is extremely selfish (and against World Health rules) to poach doctors and nurses from poor third world countries, also programmers from poor industrial countries like Bulgaria. This is another reason against immigration. Basically immigration to this country is almost entirely unethical: either we welcome immigrants because employers can pay them less, or we welcome health workers whose countries need them, or we tolerate illegals who will almost certainly not even be a boost to the economy. The lib-lab lovies and upper middle class elitists have conned the public: immigration is NOT ethical but usually either selfish or cowardly. Some exceptions should be made for genuine refugees from war torn countries but even there we don't want refugees from Gaza who will most likely be violently anti-British and anti-Western
I suggest reading David Goodhart's book "The Care Dilemma: Caring Enough in the Age of Sex Equality".
In any case, importing a slave class of Zimbabweans to work for a pittance and bring over infinity dependents who will never be net tax contributors is a tremendous cruelty to both our elderly and the workers themselves, and not a solution any serious person should endorse. I don't know about the role of Filipinos in the care sector, as here was mostly white British staffing until the Boriswave, and now the care workforce is half British and half new migrants from Africa.
Yes deport the imams preaching hate and find a way to monitor social media for Islamic terror incitement. Islamic terrorists are a scourge not just on Britain but the world.
A big problem, like it or not, is what countries are prepared to accept returned migrants. Most of the third world countries are only too glad to get rid of unemployed young males and especially any turbulent ones, they don't want them back and would have to be paid through the nose to accept any. We're in a really serious mess which all recent governments have made worse whether deliberately or through cowardice.
Many of these countries get aid from Britain. It should be made clear that if they refuse to take back their emigrants they would forfeit the foreign aid that flows from Britain to their country.
Yes, that's a valid point. But these countries might not take the bait, they are increasingly getting their aid from China. Also, in some cases, we are giving aid to rising countries like India which shouldn't need it, having a space program and soon perhaps to overtake the UK economically.
They, Security depts, already do, have for years. Problem is there so many it impossible to control, same with monitoring the person on their books, too many to monitor competently, effectively., as we’ve found out the last few years, - The, here insert, -‘ bomber, knife wielding, …- was known to Security services, …’
I agree that this is an important mechanism to consider. And it is popular too, I think support for Shamima Begum having her citizenship deprived was over 75%.
I can't be the only one who spent yesterday feeling more upset than I expected. I remain, however, infernally optimistic. It is my nature. Under Alfred, England was down to a few square miles of West Country swamp. He fought for it, lost a bunch of battles but then won. We, too, will fight for it. I hope not with arms but with the other good things our culture has given us. Including our disciplined restraint in the face of severe provocation. Because that will come.
“London’s determination to stand together is stronger than ever”
“We will always choose hope over fear and unity over division as we continue building a safer London for everyone.”
“Those who tried to divide us failed”
“We stood together then, and we stand together now—against hate and for the values that define us of freedom, democracy and the rule of law”.
Whenever I hear politicians make these remarks, I get the impression they are not talking to Islamists; they're aimed squarely at people who opposed and continue to oppose mass migration and multiculturalism.
Does/can any MP really believe this nonsense they're peddling -- everyone knows the country is more divided than ever and that the more extreme Moslem groups are gaining power all the time. Soon you won't be allowed to even use the term Islamist.
What do we do about it? These hypocrites are in control. I want mass deportations. They threw us out of their countries, we can throw them out of ours; those who were born here may not rely on their passports. If they misbehave, passports will be revoked. We are not safe and we are not fooled. Down with Starmer. Down with Kahn. Down with our weak King.
I was watching the first two episodes of the 7/7 documentary on Netflix last night and I noticed the emphasis on them being British. Even 20 years later, we still haven’t confronted the fact that to a lot of people who were born and raised here, their British nationality is nothing more than a piece of paper. Since that awful day, I daresay that none of the issues have got better. Our society is increasingly segregated along ethnic, cultural and religious lines and these divides are playing out not just on social media, but in our politics as well.
I fear 7/7 was just the beginning of a very long road of division and chaos. Good one progressives, you sure showed those right wingers by rubbing their noses in diversity.
And in the NHS in London they continue to push our faces into a big rainbow-coloured custard pie of diversity. There appears to have been a deliberate policy over the last five years of importing swathes of staff from a very specific range of distant countries. I would go so far as to say that an ethnic quota system appears to be in place. But suggest that we might do better to train up our own and the NHS heavies smash down on you like a ton of bricks.
Heartbreaking and angering. Our country is being destroyed on so many levels. A big fat nothing is what our politicians have learned Matt, and I strongly suspect ignoring the real threats to us all is quite deliberate.
Of course it's deliberate. It's been deliberate for decades. We have so much trouble baked into our future I can assure you Putin won't want it be anywhere near it.
And here's a thing we won't see on the BBC unless they can condemn it; a huge, happy, peaceful concert in Croatia with HALF A MILLION PEOPLE, no stabbings or fights... https://www.instagram.com/reel/DL0jYTZgOrU/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Ah yes, the BBC won't like that as you point out.
They won't need to worry though as Croatia is part of the EU - and is being subject to the same destructive policies as everyone else. They had better wake up soon.

Is this because Nigel cannot do everything and cannot delegate successfully? So numpties and moles get inside the organisation
I think the unBritish vindictive lawfare, lies and smear tactics we have seen can be attributed to one of Nigel's appointees.
All you write is true Matt, painfully true. In fact when I read much of your stuff I find it very hard to maintain my hope and optimism for this once great country. Would it possible, please, to write not just about the problems but what you think might be the solutions? I believe we need something to fight FOR, not just AGAINST
What we need to hear from Matt is WHICH constituency he's going to fight in.
Matthew has already listed the solutions, and some of them would not be so hard to implement if politicians had the political will to confront the reality and to change things.
It is difficult for ordinary middle-class citizens to change things. But t least we can , and must vote for the right politicians. All too
many people criticise government but abstain from voting.
You are blaming the politicians. We know the politicians are useless. What are YOU doing? What do WE all need to do?
Matt has on many many occasions advised what his solutions are.
Yes, HIS solutions. But so far all we are doing is telling other people what they should be doing. What should we be doing? Little will change whilst we rely on politicians to change things, even those that promise change
Make up your mind, first you asked what were Matt’s solutions and now you complain because they are his solutions.
Are you advocating insurrection/ people power? In which case be my guest.
No, it’s simple. The only possible solution is not whinging, finger pointing and blaming incompetent politicians, it is Swiss-style direct democracy
How are you going to achieve direct democracy Michael? Otherwise it’s just a whinge on your part too.
I sense the penny is beginning to drop. It is no good depending on academics and influencers to determine the future. Yes and 52 people were "lost" not deliberately murdered.

Nail hit on the head once again, Matt. Khan, Starmer and Cooper are in complete denial, as are Prevent.
I don't think they are in denial, they know EXACTLY what they are doing.
Good point. Luxury beliefs, following their tribe.
Yes wilful denial.
Thank you Matt. Straight to the point as usual. Khan, Starmer, Cooper and their ilk are holding fast to their fantasy of multicultural harmony. The rest of us know this is a lethal pipe dream. Politicians don't care what the people want, their sole interest is feathering their own nests.
In this case it's worse than that, they are fanatics on a mission.
Matt you just about sum up things nicely. What do about it? I think the polls reflect the wider concerns of the British public. Let’s hope we can get through this summer without anything disastrous happening.
I honestly believe something will be engineered this summer to bring on riots.
...and the police will quickly be outnumbered, there will be a bloodbath, probably several coordinated bloodbaths.
Three sanctimonious liars.
From the words they choose, one can detect that In their minds, they have substituted 'far right' for the real and growing threat, despite all evidence, including the event they pretend to honour.

Reform doesn't have the answer.
Still part of the overall problem.
They shouldn’t be here, their culture is vastly different to ours.
Yes I agree with you fully
100000 upticks!
But that’s not Immigration, that is Trade and Industry.
If Lucy Connolly can be prosecuted for a stupid tweet, they should certainly be in jail.
At least in theory people with dual nationality can have their UK citizenship revoked, and then be deported.
