Because this current Starmer Government is a Marxist one, it is no surprise that it is clamping down and outlawing free speech, because that is the norm for totalitarian governments throughout history. Just look back in anger - the Soviet Union and its satellite states; Nazi Germany; Cambodia under the Khymer Rouge; North Korea; Spain under Franco........ All examples of cruel, despotic regimes that kept their grip on power by controlling the news media and keeping the public in the dark about the true nature of what was being imposed upon them.
In Britain we have the evil Bull***t Broadcasting Corporation, which is the Government's propaganda arm, an organization that is protected by Ofcom, who make it almost impossible to bring a complaint against the BBC (as I have found out) because Ofcom require the complainant to have taken their complaint through many hoops all the way up to the DG, a process that is, frankly, near impossible. Only the BBC is afforded this protection; if it is GB News, then thousands of Leftie complaints are encouraged to go straight to Ofcom. This week the BBC were found to have committed 1500 biased violations when reporting on the Israel/Hamas war, reflecting the Corporations anti-Semetic stance. It stinks, almost as much as Kier Stalin's illegitimate Government, that is imposing Communist policies upon the population, and rewarding the public-service unions with cash, even though 80% of the electorate did not vote for it. I say again, it stinks.
Many years ago I read a shocking article about lax standards and cruelty at abbatoirs. I wrote to my MP. I pointed out it was cruel to slaughter one animal in sight and sound of others queueing up for the same fate. I was told "there is no evidence" this was the case.
That is why they are refusing to collect data. So they can pump out the decades old establishment disinformation that "there is no evidence". And we must remember that the party tells us to reject the evidence of our eyes and ears (George Orwell, 1984).
As for "fact checking" and outfits like BBC Verify, we should remember that the Russian word for truth is Pravda. BBC Verify is not unlike the famous Russian publication Komsomolskaya Pravda or "Young Communist Truth".
It's hardly surprising that Starmer behaving like a far left despot given his history. Between 1986 and 1989, Starmer was an editorial board member of the extreme Trotskyist publication Socialist alternatives whose goal was to 'Rid the world of capitalism and replace it with 'true democratic socialism'. In reality Starmer is nothing more than a poor imitation of Corbyn in Blair's clothing. Leopards don't change their spots, Starmer's past political allegiances are becoming apparent now he's PM. His attack on private education, stealing granny's winter fuel allowance and kowtowing to his Union masters is just the beginning. Once a Trot, always a Trot!
This goes right the way back to Yes Minister. One of Sir Humphrey's best sayings was, roughly, that if someone claims to have seen no evidence, ask "Has anyone looked? And if they did, what would they find?"
If the UK Government won't publish such information we have to assume that the Danish figures are close enough to UK figures to be used as a basis for discussions in the UK.
They are fascinating - showing different immigrant groups vary a lot.
Aysan Hirsi Ali's latest substack has some revealing data. The post is a response to the lies of Edward Luce, an ivory tower FT writer who obviously has no experience of life on the ground.
The 'left' are always way ahead in terms of the language they use and the control of information. This is an excellent (and depressing) example of this.
To be honest, I am still furious with the Conservatives, whom were passive whilst, allegedly in power! 14 years, yet the socialists still moved the goalposts in the background.
Yes the Conservatives just clearly demonstrated to any openminded person that virtually all of their MP's were just incompetent and that there party members didn't care.
Not quite the story Frank. The root causes of the conservative incompetence are the profound fault lines in their ideologies and the consequent failures to agree on any active government. Sadly, nothing has been done to resolve these issues and, as I have posted a number of times, none of the leadership candidates will be able to establish an agenda when the time comes because the party remains divided.
I have a problem with the misuse of words. In common with all Totalitarians the elite abuse language so that their regressive anti democratic attitudes become 'progressive' on the basis that no one will dispute progress. Bizarrely, those who disagree with the murder of society are accused of being Populist which is elite short hand for mob think. This way they bend words to bend the narrative.
Socialism was the child of middle and upper class people who had actually never done much work in their lives. Marx and Engels are examples. They were smart enough to realise that appealing to base instincts like jealousy they could obtain power. When the English working class still voted Liberal and Tory an exasperated Ramsay MacDonald said of the working class that it was "the fault of the minds of the people ". He lamented, "You cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear". Later he observed, "the minds of masses of men are so circumscribed that it seems sheer folly and perversity to allow this mass to pass important political judgments". Labour elite's contempt for working people has not changed. Socialists are religious in their belief that Socialism will triumph and their ideology will finally rule the world.
The only difference between Communists and Labour is that the former believe in revolution and the latter in the Fabian policy of imposing Socialism through 'Entryism' AKA subvertying the state. The conversion of the Civil Service into a left wing woke apparatus is a good exam[ple. The idea is that ultimately whoever we vote for we will get Socialism because they control the levers. Our only hope is to elect a government willing to smash the system they have imposed. It seems to me that only SDP and Reform have an agenda to do so.
The left want to abolish countries. We do need to understand that many races have contributed to our country and that British values are embraced by people across the world. That is what we need to defend.
Yes, absolutely! We need people from ALL backgrounds - incl. 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants - to come together and defend Britain (its values, history, institutions) from the woke mob (a motley crew of Marxists, race-obsessed progressives, members of the elite ‘chattering’ class, etc). It can’t just be a white, working class movement that will simply be smeared as a bunch of reactionary racists!
I feel like democracy, free speech and honesty have literally left the building . The elite don’t want us to have this information because they know rage would boil over. The government is a parasite plugged into the taxpayer bleeding us dry to pursue their agenda not ours . Keeping us in ignorance like farm animals forming part of the food chain . Our only hope is a populist government , the hurdle is getting enough people behind that idea in the face of so much disinformation and omission
Although it is good that someone mentions globalisation which is, economically and politically, the root cause of the present crisis, I am uneasy about all these proliferating vague terms, oligarchy, Global Capitalism, Liberal Managerial Class &c. &c. It is quite wrong to see the Left as "just useful idiots", they are certainly a lot more sinister than that and a lot more powerful. Woke is a cult and a very successful one, much much more successful than the Moonies ever were, and it started in the universities not the board-rooms; it is the educated upper middle class who are driving this cultural shift and big business has only got behind it because they are afraid of being called out and anyway their business model is untouched, the banks aren't losing money or the big IT companies and they all benefit from immigration. The cultural intolerance is driven by the intelligentsia, the same people who controlled Soviet Russia and the Catholic Church in the past; there is a power grab behind this. It is not true that economics is behind all social movements, there is, as Nietzsche saw, the Will to Power and intellectuals, especially those with mediocre abilities, seem to have a tremendous urge to delimit, control, overpower, ban, condemn, persecute. It is the equivalent of people who throw their weight around physically and cause bar room fights. Woke ideology has it both ways, it seizes the moral high ground (pro-immigrant, pro-black, pro-minorities &c.) by virtue signalling at no cost whatsoever to themselves and has the satisfaction of making life miserable for the people it can intimidate. Those with the same mentality in the past seized control of the Church and had the satisfaction of rooting out heresy and imposing abstruse dogma it didn't really believe in itself. This is an alarming movement that has very little to do with economics or global capitalism, and everything to do with the 'natural' malevolence of certain human beings.
Matt so glad that this is now starting to get some attention
As a mathematician I know only too well that without data you are generally uniformed. These tactics from the UK elite are no accident. We can see only too clearly from the data released in other European countries (eg France, Germany, Switzerland) the real costs both financial and in terms of the propensity to commit crime of immigration especially illegal immigration and asylum claimants.
What is going on is most certainly a cover up. The most egregious mis-information campaign by Government and Government Agencies like the Civil Service.
Since ancient times rulers of nations, governments and elites knew that keeping the people ignorant strengthened their rule. This also fuels their disdain for the people while the people are supposed to look up in awe at the arcane knowledge their rulers possess - and follow them, doing as they're told.
Nowadays we do have a Freedom of Information Act, but alas, those who make use of it are too few and too powerless to demand the information they demand isn't redacted, never mind being doled out in a timely manner.
One look at the front pages our formerly proud broadsheets shows that 'information', 'news', 'reporting what is' - formerly the domain of proper journalists - has fallen by the wayside. We are served official infotainment instead.
That's why some moved to social media, and that's why suddenly social media are being curtailed by governments, the elites and 'politicians'.
Anything we can do about it? Perhaps learn from the origins of the Quakers ...
And then they can’t stop telling us how shocked they are that populist parties are doing so well. I’d like to become a hermit, but of course it’s better to fight the good fight…
What to do? Well stop just reading, moaning and hand wringing! Join Reform UK who are the only party which will do anything about this.
I attended the inaugural meeting of the Knowsley branch last night, and we set up a constituency organisation where officers were appointed. About 100 constituencies in the country have been identified to roll out as pilot branches and we were proud to be one of them.
Knowsley is a largely working class area of Merseyside, one of the poorest in the country. It has always been a "Rotten borough" for Labour. The anger at the failure of the uniparty is demonstrated by the vote here in July this year. The support for Labour collapsed by 20,131 votes from 44,374 in 2019 to only 24,243 this year. From a standing start and in about just a month of campaigning Reform UK achieved 5924 votes.
For those who snigger about Merseyside, remeber this. When a savage living in an "asylum" hotel at our expense propositioned a child, we protested ("rioted" of course accoring to MSM). We also protested when the son of an immigrant stabbed to death 3 children in Southport.
So, Jenrick is NOW in favour of leaving the ECHR? Does anyone honestly think, if he is elected, he will carry the Tories with him? Apparently, a straw poll was done amongst Tory MPs prior to the election and you have guessed it, there was not a majority to leave.
Continue pontificating if you wish, but join Reform UK too!
I would be extremely surprised if they did not collect the data given the sophistication of present day data gathering and surveillance. More likely they do have it, but won't admit to it. Makes no odds either way, we know what is happening.
Before any Freedom of Information requests are made it is necessary to be clear what exactly it is that you want to know and how/if the information is collected by whom.
Local authorities and governments are adept at obfuscation and’hiding’ the information from the public, and not joining up the relevant information. Collecting and recording partial information on separate data bases in different departments. There would be no appetite for creating an easy interface.
In the truest form of ‘Sir Humphrey’ in Yes Minister, they will respond EXACTLY to what you request. They may very well KNOW EXACTLY what you want to know and why, but if you approach the wrong department or request it in a way they don’t record it, the response will be framed in the politest terms ‘sorry we don’t collect that information’.
Even if you do ask exactly the right questions, in terms they do understand, to the correct department they are likely to respond with negative options. Too sensitive, too expensive to collate and share, commercially sensitive, contains personal information, breaches human right legislation etc, etc.
The people who COULD provide this information will not be motivated to do so. The computer says no, response is alive and well.
This will take concerted efforts by people who know what they are looking for and where it is held, and are in a position to challenge the civil service, local authorities and government.
A team, including ex relevant officers, a Barrister experienced in FOIs, a data cruncher and an MP or member of the House of Lords, who is prepared to keep up the requests and pressure is the very least of what is necessary. A ‘poacher turned game keeper’ should be handy too.
However, this is the most critical and important matter facing us, and has direct links to virtually every other pressing issue in the country.
Time to start fighting back for our freedoms and rights and this starts with information. Our Country, our government, our money our information.
Either the elite class is completely incompetent, or it is deliberately concealing this information from you, the taxpayer.
Now think if it is deliberate and Starmer is releasing convicted criminals and locking people up for any opposition we need a public CRIMINAL inquiry ASAP and all those responsible need to be locked up!
We've all been saying the latter. It's intentional there is an agenda and the more information we find out the more certain I become.
This is gaslighting plain and simple. They're supposed to serve the public not control and silence them by lying to them and locking them up in some arbitrary show of (fake) force. Releasing criminals and locking up dissenters is literally 1984 playing out.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, this cultural Marxism playing out:
The creation of racism offences.
Continual change to create confusion.
The teaching of sex and homosexuality to children.
The undermining of schools’ and teachers’ authority.
Huge immigration to destroy identity.
The promotion of excessive drinking.
Emptying of churches.
An unreliable legal system with bias against victims of crime.
Dependency on the state or state benefits.
Control and dumbing down of media.
Encouraging the breakdown of the family.
Additional list:
Attack the authority of the father, deny the specific roles of father and mother, and wrest away from families their rights as primary educators of their children.
Abolish differences in the education of boys and girls.
Abolish all forms of male dominance – hence the presence of women in the armed forces.
Declare women to be an ‘oppressed class’ and men as ‘oppressors’.
Munzenberg summed up the Frankfurt School’s long-term operation thus: ‘We will make the West so corrupt that it stinks’.”
That's a long list - thank you for breaking it down - I see it too. The destruction of society, the family and the self is the psychology of totalitarianism.
Paul Harvey's "If I were the devil" radio broadcast, was (in my experience) the original version I heard (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9NoQHgjM_0) before I started reading the politically charged ideological literature.

Ayann Hirsi Ali wrote about this using data from Denmark and Sweden. It's pretty obvious that newly arrived illegal immigrants, and certain communities, are over represented in the prison/crime stats and, in particular, in certain violence related crimes against women. In the UK, think Rotterham, Telford and Rochdale, which Matt has written about.
One of her points is that the liberal elite are simply ignoring or gaslighting us over the extent of the problems.
Because this current Starmer Government is a Marxist one, it is no surprise that it is clamping down and outlawing free speech, because that is the norm for totalitarian governments throughout history. I say again, it stinks.
Paying public sector workers is common sense. Particularly if we want to reduce immigration.
We don't live under Marxism.
We live under an oligarchy, the winners of Global Capitalism and have a Liberal Managerial Class enforcing their rule.
The Left are just useful idiots for the current regime.
Many years ago I read a shocking article about lax standards and cruelty at abbatoirs. I wrote to my MP. I pointed out it was cruel to slaughter one animal in sight and sound of others queueing up for the same fate. I was told "there is no evidence" this was the case.

The 'left' are always way ahead in terms of the language they use and the control of information. This is an excellent (and depressing) example of this.

We need to move beyond the old Left v Right paradigm. It's a losing strategy.
Ethnic English people need to come together and organise for their own collective interests ( just like other groups do ).
The demographics are only going to get worse and worse for us.
The left want to abolish countries. We do need to understand that many races have contributed to our country and that British values are embraced by people across the world. That is what we need to defend.

I think you are too kind, Matt, to suggest that it just might be incompetence. Pre-pandemic I might still have believed that, but now I have absolutely no trust in government and public institutions. I believe this is a deliberate withholding of statistics. It is now fairly common knowledge that Blair's government wanted to ramp up immigration to 'rub the noses of the right in diversity '. That sounds rather deliberate to me.
Except it was actually the Tories that let in most of this.
The major parties are not much different.
