There’s an essay entitled Repressive Tolerance, written in 1968 by Herbert Marcuse, a Marxist. It advocates that hard left radical govts allow left wing people complete license- to say and do what they like, whilst right wing conservative speech and actions such as protests, are clamped down on and prosecuted. This is the essence of two tier policing which we are seeing everywhere.
This Saturday the Unite the Kingdom march which was peaceful last year, is going to be policed with riot police and facial recognition cameras, while the Palestine march will not. Right wing activists have been banned from the country whilst we allow in radical Islamists in droves.
I don’t quite know how to express my anger and despair at what is happening to this wonderful country. As to the King’s Speech- it was an authoritarian’s charter, an abomination which the King should have been ashamed to read out in the seat of our democracy.
Repressive tolerance has the same semantic meaning as longsuffering repression.
It is an inversion of reality for such a godawful ideology to be voluntarily taken up and achieve widespread acceptance without being obviously forced.
Exactly. It’s the long march through the institutions - to infiltrate organisations, the media, education in order to normalise radical left wing/ Marxist thinking- instigated by the Fabians and the Frankfurt School when they realised they weren’t going to get a violent revolution as in Russia. The Muslim Brotherhood is the equivalent in Islam- to spread radical Islam via education in mosques, madrassas etc. Set up in the 1920s after the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
You 💯% correct! Nigel and Rupert, and influential others really need to sit around a table and work this out. Fighting on the centre right will not help our cause. 🥺🙃😉
Not much evidence of freedom of speech when a bona-fide EU Politician, with whose views Starmer disagrees, is denmied entry to the UK. Only a totalitarian ruling class would so behave.
Keir Starmer is a terrible PM but I shudder to think what Andy Burnham would do and be even worse. I am heartened that Reform came second in the Makerfield constituency in 2024 and it looks more of a potential Reform seat now. Are you going to try for this one Matt? A different demographic to Gorton & Denton and hopefully without illegal voting.
It seems to me that our country is becoming a reflection of the real Keir Starmer. He is a dictator, not a Prime Minister, which is why he refuses to stand down. The only way is for him to be deposed but, by the time that happens the financial markets may well have pulled the rug from under his regime. Labour, just like the Tories, will never be trusted again.
You have laid it all out Matt and I don’t know what to say . We are in uncharted waters.
Things are hotting up with the markets not reacting well to the prospect of PM Burnham and we have to hope the good people of Makerfield do not allow that to happen. Polling indicates the seat should go Reform but nothing is certain and the battle will be fierce
I am sensing that the political war against Reform is escalating , illustrated by the tone deaf remarks in Wes Streetings resignation letter .
And I am worried about the patriots march tomorrow , kid gloves for the pro Palestinian hate march, facial recognition , armoured cars and doubtless riot gear together with banned speakers, and doubtless trouble causing antifa for the patriots.
Too many variables to see how the next 12 months will pan out but it won’t be good
The establishment is determined to goad people into civil disturbances because that will provide them with the perfect excuse to bring in ever more authoritarian laws and controls. What else can explain the constant cries of racism, far right dangers. They’re not that stupid, they know what they’re doing.
There’s a video of TR begging people to stay calm and peaceful at the march in the face of such goading and to smile. And yet he’ll be blamed if antifa cause trouble. How I wish we could resurrect George Orwell.
You are absolutely right. It’s so hard to get your head around that we are now living in a country whose government is willing to turn on its own people. Any excuse to incarcerate Tommy Robinson.
They want citizens such as those of Russia and China where the population is largely too afraid to dissent, and the consequences for doing so are severe even fatal. If the left stay in power this is where we are headed. Look at the Greens wanting to “ exclude right wingers from society.” How do they propose to do that? Detention camps?
They were always going to use anything they could to try and get him, though the Tories won’t be winning any Reform voters back by doing this, anymore they will by making council alliances with the left to try and block Reform. I looked at the naughty list and Nick Timothy another right winger is on this short list along with James McMurdoch ex Reform.
While we are bringing back dead people, along with Orwell can we revive Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn he’s been popping into my head the last few days. When I read his books at university I could not have imagined the Britain we have become
Yes. They’ve all lined up on this one. They’ve even used Piers Morgan who stands for what I don’t know, as an early attack dog. Reform haven’t handled this well.
Me too. I am alarmed and angry at the corruption in some political parties and the ill will towards their own people. We need a strong Reform government as soon as possible.
What disgusted me was how all these tyrannical "measures" were announced in a King's Speech, written by a Prime Minister who is clearly - and was already clearly, weeks ago - about to lose what little legitimacy and authority he ever had. AND that many of them were, the Government itself claimed, at the "consultation" stage. (Not that I ever believed that the latter would ever be fair or representative).
This is all so far removed from any possibility of representation that the outcome of the struggles within the Parliamentary Labour Party is completely irrelevant. What does it have to do with me, which over-ambitious prat ends up in at the top? They might as well announce that "At the meeting of the Central Committee, 99% of delegates overwhelmingly backed Comrade Starmerin".
Matt, I honesty cannot begin to tell you how scared, anxious and disenfranchised I am. The situation this country is in, and the trajectory it is on is absolutely horrendous.
Let’s have a bit of scrutiny of Burnham’s views on the money markets, specifically “not being in hock” to them. c40% of UK Gilts are held by UK pension funds and insurance companies. That’s our money and our pensions and policies folks. Another 30%-40% is held by the Bank of England (our money as well) with only 20-30% held by sovereign wealth funds like Norway or Saudi Arabia. If he’s thinking of defaulting on them we go bankrupt very quickly and pensions and benefits don’t get paid.
Truly frightening but the masses are totally unaware of what is actually happening in this country. The electorate gets what it deserves and its ignorance and fecklessness is obvious. The election of Starmer by 20% of the electorate and 34% of those who actually bothered to vote was a travesty although it was obvious to many, including me, what might well happen - Starmer the 'moderate;' would be ousted by the left. This process is continuing and the prospect of the barely literate Rayner as PM, formerly a joke, is now a real prospect. This is only part of the problem: massive Muslim immigration is the real one and we are doing nothing about this either.
It is truly abhorrent the abuse of power this bunch of Communists are introducing to this country i.e. abolishing juries, ID cards, banning legitimate politicians whilst welcoming terrorists, jailing people for tweets, it is worse than two tier, it is corruption. I can't even be bothered arguing they have no mandate to do any of it, as they couldn't care less what I and the majority of the country think. The entire country rejected this government in council elections last week, everything Labour are selling nobody wants to buy, they are viscerally despised by the people they are supposed to represent and, God forbid, serve. They must be removed. I don't know how that might happen, but machinations beyond Westminster brought about the coup that did for Truss, why the same isn't happening to this, far more stupid and dangerous, bunch of crooks I can't fathom. Perhaps they are simply waiting until the country topples over the precipice into a financial death spiral from which there is no return.
Thank you Matt, for an excellent summary of the state that the UK finds itself in today, as a result of the actions of our current Government and its leader, Kier Starmer. It is interesting to observe that whilst Starmer seems to be a weak and ineffective operator in many areas, quietly, behind the scenes, he is carefully building up a protective barricade to ensure that he remains in Downing Street for a long time, as he deflects criticism at every opportunity.
I sincerely hope that I am wrong and that we can remove this traitor at the earliest opportunity; yes, I want my country back !
Labour once claimed it wanted to “smash the system”. Turns out the plan was to become the system, bolt the doors shut and fit CCTV to the nation’s conscience while they were at it.
In barely 48 hours, Sir Keir’s crew managed to flirt with ditching jury trials, push Digital ID, edge Britain back towards Brussels and decide which political voices are acceptable for public consumption. Stalin would blush and ask them to calm down.
This is a Government so addicted to control it probably wants licences for opinions and QR codes for pub conversations. The party that once screamed about liberty now looks like a corporate HR department with police powers.
Meanwhile, voters in the old Labour heartlands are staring at Westminster like bewildered pub regulars watching their local taken over by vegan consultants from Islington.
The irony is delicious. Labour spent years warning about “threats to democracy” only to end up behaving like prefects confiscating freedoms from the people they supposedly represent.
Reform will have to pull out the stops to prevent Andy Burnham from winning the bye election which will enable him to become PM sooner or later as Starmer is finished.
Once he is PM there is a good chance that he will win the next general election. Then a coalition of the Left will be so entrenched that it will be pretty well impossible to get rid of them.
Thank you Matt once again for your very inciteful report. I honestly fear for my grand children, as it's them who will pay the price for this authoritarian and illigitimate beauracratic elitist attitude from the most inept and corrupted Government in our country's history

Absolutely. Things are desperate and whatever the personal feelings, the country must come first.
I’m hoping (but without expectation) that the Tories and Restore won’t field candidates at Makerfield to “stop Burnham” abusing our electoral system.
You could not possibly have expressed my concerns and fears so accurately and eloquently Matt.
Not much evidence of freedom of speech when a bona-fide EU Politician, with whose views Starmer disagrees, is denmied entry to the UK. Only a totalitarian ruling class would so behave.

They’re also going after Farage over the money he got for his security.

👍 same. brilliant man.

Morgan sickens me, hes blind to the threats from Islamism and constantly slags off and lies about TR. He needs to step out of his bubble.
I truly believe the voting will be rigged again
Me too. I am alarmed and angry at the corruption in some political parties and the ill will towards their own people. We need a strong Reform government as soon as possible.
Perfectly put.
