I beg to differ: he did not "sell off" the Chagos Islands, he gave them away and is now paying to use them. The worst of all possible worlds, and something no rational businessperson would even begin to consider.
Imagine what would happen if the MD of a company gave away company assets and, at the same time, entered into an agreement to use the company's money to pay to continue to have use of those assets... all without the consent of the company's owners.
Does everyone realize this is the SECOND time we've paid for the Chagos. We paid Mauritius in 1968 for the damn things and doing it a second time. Like paying for a house twice except the original owner is us and not some other island a thousand miles away.
The major problem is that there are no individuals in the cabinet and possibly most Labour MP’s who have had any form of business experience and therefore how to earn a salary
We are an elderly couple, with 3 children and 6 grandchildren. ..All well educated and productive. We love our country, our home and our family. Despite advanced age if this government is not thrown out within 6 months we will be leaving OUR country, OUR home, OUR family to move to another country where sanity rules. After a lifetime of work and contribution to this country we are not now going to see everything we have saved taken from us to pay for the traitors who are giving OUR country away to the great unwashed and the religiously vicious by the policies of stupidity and anti-British. I expect our feelings are replicated across this country. All that will be left will be the lazy spongers, the criminals and the people of Islam. God help our once great country.
The problem is where do you go. The entire world is in upheaval at the moment. Australia is about 5 or 10 years behind us.
Europe is a basket case.
America may be an option.
We are in the middle of a crusade and all western civilisations are fighting for our respective countries and, without wanting to sound melodramatic, our very culture and lives.
They are completely heading in the opposite direction to countries like Denmark. Just watched an intresting video about what their (Left wing) government is proactively doing to get to grips with these civilisational changing issues.
It was just posted today on YouTube channel History Debunked, it's called 'Denmark has reduced immigration by 90% and banned the burqa, simply by passing laws'.
But Blair, - who wanted his name out there for brown nosing and anywhere on international organs gravy train, - had the ECHR Human Rights whole law built into our HR Bill, so we stymied until get a politician with ba ls who pro UK and not anti as both Bl jar and Starmer,…. and both have Knighthoods, Hmmm! …. Whereas other EU countries did not include.
Starmer, Lammy, Cooper - open borders, grooming gang cover up, slavery reparations - for the UK. But when other countries are less than diverse and inclusive, we do not hear so much as a squeak of protest from Starmer and his human rights lawyer chums. This example is from Israel but could just as easily be Pakistan persecuting Christians.
Ah, but: "10 years to save the NHS" - a 'doctor in your pocket'! So "we" will survive, won't we, because "we" are saving the Sacred Cow, and the half-million 'new guests' who're getting free health care before the 'natives' do. anything else would the raycissst.
Because we’ve all flipping PAID for it already, that’s why! And Medical Insurance abroad is a minefield of traps and heartless money making. Honestly, you don’t know what you’ve got until you lose it. Just make the foreigners PAY and illegals can get their gangland escorts to pay for them or NO treatment!
Because it's all free, free, free. No "patient" need put their hand in their pocket or take any responsibility for their own health. Maybe general healthcare should be more like dentistry, where 80% of problems are the result of poor diet and poor oral hygiene, which makes charging even NHS patients a fee justified.
No other country in the world organises healthcare like the UK. And yet we are obsessed with thinking that “our NHS” is the best model when nobody else does! Surely if you had 99 friends and you thought differently to every one of them you’d doubt yourself?
The NHS is a scam, just like Net Zero and Climate Change, which sucks hundreds of billions of pounds of tax payers money every year to be thrown down the great NHS waste chute, never to be seen again. No one cares, no accountability, and and people complain about a non-existent service they just ask for more cash when it runs out
Yup, managers who have been promoted to their level of incompetence, consultants seeing private patients in NHS time, inefficient use of resources, poor organization, empire-building within, incompetent staff due to poor training in the universities, doctors asking for every test on every patient to cover their backs...
Because the Govt not prepared to pay salaries of the now trained GPs, (Tories having increased numbers and training.) Surgeries not taking them on so the population when feel in need of a trained medic now only have a phone. Again we meant to just accept, and unfortunately we do, a lowering of standards compared to when the NHS began.
That made me laugh ! Except you are only half joking ! If Labour don’t go voluntarily, most unlikely , then I can see unrest over the channel influx or the economy will crash, or God forbid we will have another Southport level atrocity and somehow we will have to demand a general election as we have seen in other countries . There is no mechanism we haven’t done it before
Starmer will never ever ever ever relinquish power and call an early General Election. It just won't happen. He's like a kid with the keys to the chocolate factory. Eyes wide and giddy on power. Four more long years. The only hope we have is more Labour MPs rebelling and destroying their majority. But the numbers don't add up so four more years of chaos it is.
Agree with you Starmer won’t relinquish power ( and I would be there with you for the coup , I have an impressive array of gardening implements !) But I do think there is a chance we will be overtaken by events. The dinghy invaders are flooding in , we may go bust , I just think there is a good chance we won’t get to four years . The electorate are where they were at the end of Rishi’s reign and we are only a year in . We will have to wait and see . Meanwhile hang onto that rake !
I realised there was a typo in my message. I had written "I WOULD start a coup" when I meant to say "I would NOT start a coup". If someone else did though I'd be in the front line. Glad to see you be there with your garden tools too. Love it! And yes you may well be right that events will overtake us. I suppose there's one other possibility and that's if things get so bad the IMF step in. Surely even Starmer and his band of self-satisfied cabinet members would call a general election then. It's all a mess, a big worrying mess. But yes I'm always (figuratively) clutching my Pickfork in true revolution (not the socialist type) style.
It obvious Reeves knows nothing of economics (whatever might claim on her CV) and obvious Starmer who her Chancellory boss as well as being PM, maths means absolutely nothing to him. Which has left the senior civil servants, finance quangos free reign over a woman that has not the brain she thinks she has, - she has never fully understood any issue over the years since came on scene, always shallow her comprehension.
Is liberal democracy not part of the problem? Or, rather, the recent extremising of liberal democracy and its merger with/capture by an evolved form of Marxism? For example, protecting minority rights has morphed into group-based identities and associated grievances, privileges, etc. - where the old Left promoted corporatism, the new Left promoted sectarianism. Likewise, extreme judicial independence has effectively removed accountability, leading to inevitable ideological capture without mechanisms for remedy, and the associated absurd outcomes we see in the courts on a daily basis. And the separation of powers in its recent form (e.g. since establishing the Supreme Court, precedents regarding executive power, etc.) has basically led to ineffective governance as no one knows who is really in charge and has the final word.
I think this extreme form of liberal democracy, which was introduced in the Blair years, needs to be largely reversed. Technocratic managers and the permanent bureaucracy have shown they are actually worse than politicians at governing.
The country has become increasingly socialist, meaning that we are collectively worse off. However, most people want greater workers' rights and prefer the socialist NHS
I think people like the idea of the NHS more than they like the experience. Show them a different way and the benefits that result, and there will be no looking back.
Until a stable number on population exists any Public Service, part or fully financed by taxes, a plan not possible. ….. The last two Census might as well be torn up rather than some public servant department create something off those figures that out of date before first computer put in or brick laid.
Great analysis Matt. I’m a lot older than you and I’ve never known such a disastrous period in our history all brought on by successive govts since Blair. He is the architect of much of the destruction and Starmer either through ideology or incompetence is carrying on his legacy. This lot are incredibly dangerous for a whole variety of reasons but if we let them, they’ll take away even our freedom to speak about the problems. They are afraid of the plebs and they’ll do everything they can to shut us up. That’s what Lucy Connolly is in prison for. We need the Labour complicity in covering up the grooming gangs to become public. That might help bring about a Labour collapse.
This time last year, we spoke of “Starmergeddon” as gallows humour — a way to brace for the turbulence ahead. Twelve months on, after Labour’s economic vandalism, border chaos, and student-union politics in Westminster, it feels less like hyperbole and more like prophecy.
Few expected this government to be quite this disastrous, and they’re only one year in. The next four understandably bring dread. But now isn’t the time for despair. We need a steely resolve to rescue a country from those seemingly intent on tearing it down.
For all the reasons Matt gives I feel the country is shrinking into a state of depressed inertia. It will take a great deal of effort for Reform to prevent the voters accepting depoliticisation which is an objective surely in the minds of the elites.
By depoliticisation, do you mean the elite deliberately pushing disillusionment with democratic politics altogether?
Like Boris betraying Tory voters with the Boriswave? Like Labour cutting winter fuel payments and talking up war? Like Reform reminding us that immigration is the life blood of this country?
If national politics and parties are all now useless, perhaps we need those nice tech oligarchs and international philanthropists to lead us. They know what we need far better than we do ourselves. Lets own nothing and be happy.
You are far too generous Matt, saying that the government is unable to understand the people and what they want. In fact, they know very well what the people want, but they are never going to get it because it doesn't fit the secret narrative. Starmer gave the game away when he told Emily Maitlis that he preferred Davos over Westminster, and Ken Clarke said the same thing in different words years ago when he couldn't wait for the day when Westminster was no more important than a parish council. These people want one world government, no individual nations with their individual populations, no countries with borders and definitely no armies of their own to defend them. Mass migration of people who couldn't be more different from the people they replace is just a way of fulfilling Coudenhove-Kalergi's prediction that the future of Europe is coffee coloured. It may not come in my lifetime, or in yours Matt, but it is well on its way. Our only hope is Reform UK.
At 82 years of age with just a basic pension, I am seriously thinking of leaving this country, I do not honestly think I can take any more. The stress is giving me health problems. I have worked since I was 16 to 70. When I look at my city centre, a small city in the North of England, my heart breaks.
I have been published in the Carlisle Newsletter of being racist because I dared to post on our Reform web page that I had stopped taking deliveries from Just Eat etc., after my last two deliveries were delivered by black men. I had never seen a black person in Carlisle before. Rightly or wrongly I assumed they were immigrants working for low pay, taking jobs off Carlisle folk.
I am far from being racist, having givem birth to two beautiful mixed race children (one unfortunately now deceased at age 56 with a bleed on the brain, after beating multi myeloma.
My ex (late) husband, the father of my children came to UK in 1960. He was Mauritian and British. Before he was allowed in he had to prove he had a job and somewhere to live, which is the correct procedure for allowing people into our country. He went on to be a Registered Mental Nurse and then a State Registered Nurse.
Having followed the rules and abided legally all our lives we have to live with this bs.
I am honestly at the end of my tether and heart broken.
Oh, don't worry Matt, I understand Jeremy Corbyn is now to be a co-founder of another political party, and no doubt that will sort all our problems out. I'm being just so sarcastic here but it doesn't quite come across in print, does it? Incidentally there is a great interview on Jordan Peterson's podcast today about the wreckage made of Germany under typical "liberal" globalist policies. And instead of seeing sense in the AfD party, the "establishment" or the "elites" gang up on them and call them names, rather like Reform over here. We've got to get through this degeneration of old-style "Western civilization" and build better institutions on common-sense policies, sensible migration levels, an absence of alternative "legal" (i.e. religious-based) structures, and a visionary future instead of a self-destructive "we're-the-bad-guys" perspective.
I just don't understand how we got to this point where white Brits hate the West so much and want to bring us down at all cost. It's so bizarre. Imagine if we had a war now, the number of collaborators would be sky high. Total disaster. As for Germany (and France, for that matter) excluding the second most popular party in Germany, they do that at their peril. Shutting out what the electorate wants is a dangerous game that won't end well. Germany was Europe's power house, my how it has fallen. Merkel kickstarted that nonsense and it's only gathered pace.
The hatred has been taught over decades because leftie thinking is rife in universities and has been passed down from there after Marxists realised they weren’t going to get a revolution in the west and had to infiltrate education and the media. It’s been a long term project now coming to fruition.
Weird, isn't it? I would compare it to flat-earthers, who are still to be found and are so stupidly blindly flying in the face of what anyone should be able to see, except socialism is so much more dangerous than an eccentric belief by idiots. It can partly be ignorance of facts and history, plus immaturity - there's always another generation ready to parrot cliche propaganda about western imperialism or capitalism, without understanding either of them. That could be solved by a sane education system, pretty much, but how utterly unreasonable of me to expect that after only about eight thousand years of civilization we could come up with a sane education system. It's partly also the psychological structures of different personality types, of course - compassion as well as resentment, "oh it isn't fair" or "poor thing hasn't got anything, while that rich devil over there drives past in his flash car". That could be solved by sane intelligent education as well, teaching kids about what life and standards were like all over the world before capitalism, and about the built-in safeguards of freedom of expression and the exercise of compassion in any decent (non-Police) State; and about the Pareto principle and the inevitability of unequal distribution - do they want the Moon to be as big as the Sun, or my rose bush to be as big as your oak tree, or your hamster to be as big as his horse, because otherwise "it isn't fair"? Do they want everybody to look like Quasimodo, because that would be more equitable than having a world which includes outliers like Dwayne Johnson or Michelle Pfeiffer? Can they not imagine thought experiments, e.g. we get Jeff Bezos to give a thousand people a million pounds each, as he would still be a rich man, and we wait to see the results: more equitable distribution of wealth? Or some people who give it all away, some people who just gamble it away, some people who drink themselves to death, a very few who set up businesses - most of which fail and some even ending in bankruptcy, but a handful of which are successful and make them into the "excessively rich" as well - and hundreds who pay off the mortgage and then buy everything they've ever wanted on Amazon, just sending the profits back to Jeff Bezos anyway? Without tyrannical totalitarian state control, it just does not and would never work. Communism collapsed in Eastern Europe without even needing a war against it, because it tried that kind of control and was so utterly inept and incompetent, socially, politically, and economically. And yet, as you say, socialism marches on! I think I might join the flat earthers, they might make slightly more sense!
Matt Starmer’s Labour don’t want to stop mass illegal immigration. They are continuing with the Blair strategy to destroy the nation state with it. The Johnson Tories were so dumb they spectacularly failed to see this and instead put it on steroids.
Fair comment, in the sense of the Blairites in the Tory Party. But I still thing it’s dumb to allow 1 million immigrants and a Leave-to-Remain time bomb which is about to go off
I beg to differ: he did not "sell off" the Chagos Islands, he gave them away and is now paying to use them. The worst of all possible worlds, and something no rational businessperson would even begin to consider.
He paid Mauritius to take them. …. And THEN rent them back!
If anyone did that deal in Business they would be blacklisted by fellows. But because it public money (we don’t have) somehow it allowed to stand.
Imagine what would happen if the MD of a company gave away company assets and, at the same time, entered into an agreement to use the company's money to pay to continue to have use of those assets... all without the consent of the company's owners.
They and accountants of the company be blacklisted by rest of Business, and Company House might have something to say!
Does everyone realize this is the SECOND time we've paid for the Chagos. We paid Mauritius in 1968 for the damn things and doing it a second time. Like paying for a house twice except the original owner is us and not some other island a thousand miles away.

Just difficult to find a country where sanity rules….
That is the problem. Don’t bother with Australia. We have an idiot Labor government that is doing the same.
In the Anglosphere, that is true.

Labour are still all in with Big Diversity.

Labour are only in with Big Diversity in this country. They couldn't care less about diversity in other countries, particularly those that fund them:

Starmer, Lammy, Cooper - open borders, grooming gang cover up, slavery reparations - for the UK. New Labour, New Diverse Britain (but ethno-nationalism is fine if you fund or vote for us).
Ah, but: "10 years to save the NHS" - a 'doctor in your pocket'! So "we" will survive, won't we, because "we" are saving the Sacred Cow, and the half-million 'new guests' who're getting free health care before the 'natives' do. anything else would the raycissst.
Why do most people want to keep the sacred cow even though it means we are less healthy and live shorter lives?
Because we’ve all flipping PAID for it already, that’s why! And Medical Insurance abroad is a minefield of traps and heartless money making. Honestly, you don’t know what you’ve got until you lose it. Just make the foreigners PAY and illegals can get their gangland escorts to pay for them or NO treatment!

I think the question exercising a lot of people’s minds is this is supposed to be a democracy , how can we oust Labour sooner than the fixed term
Parliament Act dictates
A coup! I'd be at the front. Now I'll go and hide under the table to avoid the imminent knock on the door from the police.
There is no mechanism we haven’t done it before
And indeed half joking, half not. I wouldn't start said coup but if civil war ensued I'd be there with my garden rake.

Yes, I have my pitchfork at the ready!
Starmer and his bunch of incompetent turds need to go now! another 4 years of this bunch and UK will be a third world country
We have been living beyond our means for years, and labour are making it worse. We need a better way to find the right people to run the country.

That 16% who are satisfied with the Labour government must be all the people on benefits. The client class of socialism.
Liberal Democracy is drinking in the 'Last Chance Saloon' if it can't get to grips with these issues.
Is liberal democracy not part of the problem? Or, rather, the recent extremising of liberal democracy and its merger with/capture by an evolved form of Marxism?
The Johnson Tories were part of it, in my view. Not dumb, but willing enablers/collaborators, in my view.
Fair comment, in the sense of the Blairites in the Tory Party. But I still thing it’s dumb to allow 1 million immigrants and a Leave-to-Remain time bomb which is about to go off
I would suggest that Princess Meghan Markell is LESS unpopular, ie MORE popular, than The Starmbannfuehrer, despite her much deserved unpopularity.
