Empathy is a virtue, but without limits or reciprocity it becomes suicidal. It is a shame that George Soros, Popper’s most famous student, seems to have learned so little from his warning about unlimited tolerance. It also reminds me of Allan Bloom’s 'The Closing of the American Mind': people became so open-minded and relativistic that they closed their minds to the value of their own civilisation.
I can't stand clutter but that NEVER applies to books. And please do not resort to identity politics to denigrate half of the population based on one person's behaviour.
Bloom's translation of Rousseau's Emile was particularly interesting. Given Bloom's views, the antithesis of Marxism or Rousseau on so many levels, you would not expect him to credit a virtual nemesis with having written the definitive book on education. But then again, as Saul Bellow pointed out about Bloom in Ravelstein, you wouldn't expect a man that pours scorn on hip hop and rap and 80s popular culture to dress like a pimp. He also seemed to despise 'gay culture' whilst being openly gay. Bloom was certainly authentic if completely unpredictable which is why Bellow found him so interesting.
Yes I saw this and was surprised and happy it came from a mainstream newspaper. Syed though isn’t a bad bloke. I think the MSM are like sheep and follow en bloc. A herd or flock. If they do turn it’ll be like a pack of cards falling, suddenly all go at once and the argument won. But they’ve been wedded to the mainstream view for so long, I won’t hold my breath that change is coming.

From Shabana Mahmoud’s full force of the law reaction to Danny Tommo’s peaceful demonstration to Chakrabarti’s call for them to be outlawed as a terrorist group , the reactions to the big donations to Reform to the extreme of contemplating retrospective legislation, or trying to ease us back into the EU it’s clear that the left will use fair means or foul as Dominic Cummings warned to try and shut down the right .
Any pro right or pro Jew post on social media is immediately subject to a mass pile on by the left , and as Ed Sheeran discovered nobody in public life not paying homage to their orthodoxy will be allowed to stand if they can help it.
The right must be strong, the right must organise the stakes are too high and vote for change not nuance of view. That’s a luxury we cannot afford. Back Reform in other words
To me, as just a regular British citizen, mother and grandmother, it’s staggering how the 10-15% have been able to control our society to such an extreme degree. Although I guess if they’ve taken over the institutions of power and influence, including MSM (all a million miles away politically and socially from most of the regular voting public) that explains a lot. It’s unfortunate (understatement) that society is only now waking up to how much it has been captured by this elite sneering self-important ideology, having called so many of us all the names under the sun for daring to speak out with logic, patriotism and concern for our families. Let’s hope it’s not too late 🤞🇬🇧🩵
I voted for left-wing parties up to and including 1997, moved right after the Bernie Ecclestone hypocrisy, and was radicalised by seeing through the "climate change" scam in 2007-8. Not a clever way for political parties to lose support.

I think that it is telling that the four younger members of my family (late Twenties, early Thirties) are all hyper Liberal in outlook. They all believe in unlimited immigration, support the Islamification of our society and hate England, refusing to be associated with it or its flag. I do not get involved in discussions around this, but I would like to know what they think this country will be like when it is fully converted to Islam? What it will be like when we have total government control over everything, including what we can say and think? It is easy to see where we are heading if we do not change course, because the evidence is all around us; in the example of Islamic countries, and in the history of Socialism throughout the Twentieth Century; anyone who cares to look can see the future, but they pretend not to notice.....

A policy which has remained hidden for many years but which is now increasingly obvious to everyone. A policy which has never had popular support or democratic consent from any nation state. And yet it is predicted by the Holy Bible. Put simply it is the work of a demonic angel named Satan who for defying his Creator God was thrown out of Heaven, and down to Earth, where he has created chaos, violence, and horror ever since. His doom is approaching. A fiery eternity in Hell awaits him.

I have the same opinion of Tony Blair for the UK. You're right to blame those leaders, but their cake was baked by Gramsci and Foucault, and we've allowed it to be inculcated into two generations of children through our (compulsory) education system and the notion that everyone should pay £30,000 for their children to be spoon-fed postmodernist guff. No wonder Burnham got into trouble for advocating more technical education. Though it's undoubtedly being energetically decolonised, it's quite hard to teach deconstructionism in building trades training.

I had to save my entire Bloom collection from my wife's recent house clear-out. Also loved Saul Bellow's Ravelstein based on Bloom.
I too am familiar with the feminine enthusiasm for a ‘clutter clearance’!
Perhaps they’ll apply the principle to the occupants of 10 & 11 Downing Street?

That's the only book by Alan Bloom that I possess.
It was certainly ahead of its time.

Perhaps Angela Merkel (born in communist East Germany) was a secret
communist all along and worked successfully when in office to undermine Europe via mass immigration.
