The number of people applying for asylum reached 111,000 in the year ending June 2025. This is the highest figure since records began and reflects how today’s crisis is worse even than what unfolded during the second Blair government.
There are now 32,100 asylum seekers housed in hotels at the end of June 2025 —up from 29,600 a year earlier. Labour is not reducing the use of hotels —the number is up 8% on the period before Labour took power
The government spent £4.76 billion managing the asylum crisis last year, in the year ending June 2025. This is the equivalent of hiring 86,500 police officers or 16 million winter fuel payments for British pensioners at the upper rate
